Administrative Support Bookkeeping Emphasis Diploma at Minnesota State Community And Technical College

This emphasis is designed to prepare students to perform bookkeeping and payroll procedures in addition to the job responsibilities that are required for administrative support.

Program outcomes
1. Apply computer skills efficiently and accurately to office tasks using a variety of computer application programs.
2. Apply organizational skills.
3. Apply the principles of grammar, punctuation, spelling and vocabulary.
4. Create and analyze database filing systems.
5. Demonstrate proficiency and efficiency using proper keyboarding and machine transcription techniques.
6. Demonstrate interpersonal skills through effective listening and communicating in diverse situations.
7. Demonstrate critical-thinking and problem-solving.
8. Record and analyze business transactions and all financial documents related to the accounting cycle.
9. Demonstrate ergonomic principles and safe practices when using computer technology.

Employment information
In Minnesota and nationally, a large number of job openings exist for experienced secretaries. Temporary or part-time work is available during peak business periods. Demand for secretaries will be stimulated by the increasing use of information and the trend of secretaries handle more administrative responsibilities such as budgeting, scheduling, and office management, which are not easily automated.
