Admission Detail of MBA Degrees at Missouri Southern State University
Before you can be admitted into the MBA program, you must be accepted for admission to graduate study. To be accepted for admission to graduate study at Northwest, you should have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited American university or college. You must also complete an application for graduate admission and return it to the Graduate Office of Admissions. And you must send official transcripts from each accredited institution you have attended to Northwest’s Graduate Office, 800 University Drive, Maryville, MO 64468-6001. You can obtain an application online or contact the Graduate Office at 660.562.1144.
To be admitted to the MBA program, students must meet the following criteria:
Minimum 2.5 GPA on undergraduate transcript.
A satisfactory score on the GMAT, GRE, or Major Field Achievement Test (MFAT):
GMAT – the formula, 200 X undergraduate GPA + GMAT score must be equal to or greater than 950, but the minimum score accepted is 440.
GRE – The minimum GRE score accepted is 360 verbal and 460 quantitative.
MFAT – Must have scored in the 70th percentile or higher on the Major Field Achievement Test.
OR Candidates with 5 or more years of experience may request a waiver of the graduate admissions test. Contact the department for details.
Complete writing assessment. A writing assessment score on the GMAT or GRE of 3.5 or higher will meet this requirement. Candidates who are accepted by a MFAT score or managerial experience waiver must complete a separate assessment.
Complete Approved Program Form with advisor.
MBA program applicants who took the MFT at their undergraduate institution and scored at or above the 70th percentile may have the GMAT requirement waived. In order to apply for this waiver, the applicant must submit documentation from his or her undergraduate institution that verifies the date the applicant took the MFT, the applicant’s numerical score on the MFT, and the corresponding percentile rank. This documentation should be in the form of a letter, on the letterhead of the applicant’s undergraduate institution, and signed by an officer (dean or chair) of that institution. This documentation must be enclosed with the application to the MBA program.
Admission may be granted to a limited number of students who show high promise for success but do not meet the above standards. A minimum of five years successful managerial experience may be considered in lieu of the GMAT for these students. To be considered, the prospective student must submit a written request to the Dean of the Melvin and Valorie Booth College of Business and Professional Studies which includes a data sheet indicating managerial positions held and a description of responsibilities in each position. A letter of reference should accompany the data sheet from the immediate supervisor(s) addressing the job responsibilities of each position.
Writing Assessment
The Analytical Writing Assessment administered as part of the GMAT/GRE examination will be used to determine the need of an applicant for any additional work in writing. Any students who scores 3.0 or less on the writing assessment portion of the GMAT/GRE examination will be required to complete 10-110 Introduction to College Writing during their first trimester of enrollment. A grade of “C” or better in this class will satisfy the writing sample requirement.
Students who are admitted under the MFT or a waiver of the GMAT/GRE are required to complete a separate writing assessment. Those students will be notified with their acceptance of their need to sit for a writing assessment.
