The Medical Administrative Specialist degree program trains you for employment in medical environments such as medical schools, hospitals, clinics, physician offices, insurance companies, nursing homes and government agencies. Job responsibilities vary but generally include serving as liaison between the provider and patient; using specialty software to create, update and access patient records; entering patient demographics; scheduling appointments; ensuring accurate procedural and diagnosis coding; and conducting insurance follow-up. You also may assist with academic research, prepare presentation materials, and coordinate meetings and events. Employers expect that you are productive, accurate and people-oriented. Core skills include an ability to work under pressure, empathetic personality, and a strong personal and professional code of ethics. The employment outlook is favorable.
