UG in MEng Mechanical Engineering Career at Aston University

Peter Brett has leading research experience in robotics for microsurgery, smart sensing in biological systems for quantifying ‘behaviour’, properties and the interaction between surgical tools, tissues and cells. His work provides international leadership on sensory-guided robotic tools for microsurgery and has led to the first autonomous surgical robot to be applied in clinical practice. The new distributive approach to sensing is appropriate to applications in medicine and biology, and is both mechanically and computationally efficient. In tactile sensing, it has demonstrated potential for discriminating human motion, behaviour and for discriminating contacting conditions between surgical tools and flexible tissues. The research has been funded by the CEC, EPSRC, Industry and dti.
