Associated careers
Traditionally a means of entering the legal profession, a law degree is increasingly used as a route into a number of fields, including accountancy, banking and finance, business and commerce, local and central government, the police and prison services, and teaching. This degree is of particular value if you are seeking a career in international business and commerce.
Assessment
Methods of assessment include examinations, essays, problem-solving exercises, case-studies, presentations, mooting, online discussions, group work and final-year major project (dissertation).
Professional recognition
This is a Qualifying Law Degree and will therefore enable you to proceed to the vocational stage of training (the Bar Vocational Course for barristers or Legal Practice Course for solicitors), subject to satisfying any additional requirements imposed by the Joint Academic Stage Board (which represents the legal profession in England and Wales).
Special features
In your final year, with the guidance of a supervisor, you will research an area of law and write a major project relating to your chosen area. This will provide you with the opportunity to develop your chosen specialism, and to further develop your research skills and powers of analysis, critical evaluation and written communication.
The Law School is an active participant in national and international competitions and is very proud of its students’ achievements. Our students have won national competitions in Mooting, Client Interviewing (on four occasions), and the Gepps Legal Debate trophy. They have also reached the semi-finals of the Allen & Overy Legal Negotiation Competition.
Links with industry
Anglia Law School enjoys a very good relationship with local firms of solicitors and barristers’ chambers with a number of student prizes being sponsored by these firms. The Law School also benefits from close links with local criminal justice agencies, including the Crown Prosecution Service. Many local organisations and employers act as mentors to our students.
Other areas of interest
You will have the opportunity to study for a semester at one of our partner institutions in Sweden, Spain or France. In Sweden, the modules are delivered in English. Study abroad may also be possible in the USA.
